1. Most laugh out loud funny
2. Most inspiring
3. Most likely to get me to act (buy their product, visit their website)
4. Biggest epic fail
AND
5. Best in show: the all around winner.
So let's get started.
Most laugh out loud funny goes to: I don't know what in the world this has to do with tires, but the Bridgestone "Reply All" commercial had me laughing out loud. We have all experienced that blood drain from our face moment when we realize we hit reply all.
The next award is most inspiring and it goes to Chrysler and "Imported from Detroit" with local town bad boy Eminem. Loved it. I don't like Chrysler or Eminem and yet I loved this commercial. Strange how that works...
Now the most likely to make me act goes to Living Social. I actually went to their website and signed up for the email specials this morning when I revisited this little diddy. The commercial is laugh out loud funny and I suspect their advertising team high fived when they got to work this morning basking in the glow of NOT being the advertising team for their competition Groupon.
There are some hits, there are some misses. Of all the commercials last night the one that just didn't work for me was the highly touted and buzzed about commercial from Best Buy featuring the unlikely duo of Ozzy and Justin Bieber. On paper I am sure it looked good but it didn't translate and gets my award for epic fail.
Last is Best in Show. Drum roll Please.....Volkswagen does Darth Vader. This commercial was making it's way across face book in the days leading up to the Bowl but it didn't diminish my enthusiasm. It captures the experience of being a kid and my friends with boys really loved it. I loved it too.

This year's advertisers were channeling me...coincidence? I think not!
I happen to live with a tiny Darth Vader who I've convinced that I can open and close the doors of my minivan just by using my super-duper-mommy-brain-power. His little friends even call our Honda Odyssey "Amy's Magic Bus". We actually cheered aloud/high-fived when we saw the VW commercial. Made me think, "Hmmm...I've never paid attention to anything VW besides the Beetle. I'll have to look into these cars next time we buy."
The second commercial that made me cheer was for the Chevy Camaro. I drive a minivan because it's convenient at this stage in life, but I WANT...and I mean REALLY, REALLY want a Camaro. (red) Add to that - I'm an educator!!! When that teacher rolled up in her Camaro, I felt an almost erie connection with the makers of Chevy.
I'm convinced these are not coincidences at all. Social media is giving new, real insights to the world of marketing. Out with antiquated demographics that say "30-something" teachers only pay attention to commercials about laundry detergent and skin care products! This social media stuff changes everything...and I love it!
